The Northrop BT-1 was the US Navy's first "modern" dive bomber when it was introduced. Shortly after it entered production, though, Northrop was bought by Douglas, who put famed designer Kelly Johnson (who designed the BT-1 while he worked at Northrop) to work on an improved version, which went on to become one of the most famous aircraft of World War II: the SBD Dauntless. If you compare the two, the family resemblence is unmistakable. We believe this is the first time an injection plastic kit of the BT-1 has been made available, so hats off to Valom yet again! Markings included in this kit are for 5-B-7 of CV5 on the Yorktown (pictured in the box art) and 6-B-9 of CV6 aboard the Enterprise. Dive brakes are in photoetched brass for realism.
