The all-wood Seagull I was first produced in 1922, but by the time the Seagull V appeared, it had been given an all-metal hull and stainless steel wing spars. Powered by a 625hp engine spinning a pusher-prop, the aircraft was deployed by the British Royal Navy in 1936, after having its structures reinforced for catapult launch and being renamed the Walrus Mk. I. These aircraft served throughout the war, and some continued flying even after. Valom's kit of the Walrus Mk. I features recessed panel lines and fine molding throughout. Well-molded resin parts and a nice fret of photo-etched parts round out the details. Markings for two Walrus Mk. I aircraft are also included.
