The 27,000-ton-displacement IJN Destoyer Akizuki was the lead ship of its class, being commissioned in June of 1942 in Yokosuka. The Akizuki met its fate at the torpedoes of the US submarine Halibut during the Battle of Cape Engano, sinking on October 25, 1944.
This Monochrome/Trumpeter release of the Akizuki is sharply molded in gray styrene, and includes photo-etched metal detail parts and a drydock-style stand. Builds into a full-hull kit only, with a nicely slide-molded one-piece hull. Decals are included for both the WWII Destroyer Akizuki (as depicted in this kit) and the modern Japan Coast Guard Patrol Vessel Large Akizuki (kit not included!).
