Since the end of the Cold War in the 1990's, the role of the Japanese Ground Self Defence Force (JGSDF) has gradually changed. It was shifted from a fighting force for heavy armor engagements to a light swift force for anti-terror and peacekeeping missions. This mission change has been reflected in the most recent equipment developed for the JGSDF. This Light Armored Vehicle is one such piece of equipment, and is now deployed in the role of bringing humanitarian assistance to southern Iraq. Tamiya has released this 4-WD light armored car in a very timely fashion, after prompt and thorough research of information gleaned from the media. The most notable feature is the introduction of a die-cast metal chassis (already primed). This ensures the rigidity of the model and succeeds in imparting an impression of heaviness in its appearance. Of course, Tamiya's state-of-the-art modeling technique is proven over and over in this kit. The complicated component of the hatch and armor shield of the roof-mounted machine gun is reproduced perfectly, as are the chassis components. One driver figure in the latest uniform, with body armor, is included, as are three sets of decals for the unit in Iraq. An epoch-making model for JGSDF and for Tamiya!
