The Ki-27 (or Type 97 Fighter Aircraft) was the IJAAF's main fighter in the pre-war period, and continued to be widely used into the early-war period. This model is the "b" variant, with improved canopy and oil cooler as compared to the original "a" variant. Panel lines are fine and recessed. A fret of photoetched parts is included to supply a very detailed cockpit, with photoetched instrument panel, seat, belts and levers. A vacuform canopy is provided. Decals are for 4 aircraft: a captured aircraft flown by the Chinese Nationalist Air Force in 1942-43; a green and brown camoflaged aircraft (No. 3) of the Thai Air Force in 1944 (shown in the box art); a green over gray (No. 4) of the Thai Air Force in 1944 and a green over light blue aircraft captured during the Nomonhan Incident and test flown by the Soviet Far-Eastern Air Force. While RS Models are "short-run" kits, it is honestly hard to believe that looking at the parts. RS Models kits are easily on par with the major makers, and the added detail provided by the photoetched pieces will make them really stand out, even to the "flashlight brigade".
