The Shirase is the second icebreaking Antarctic observation ship deployed by the JMSDF (the first was the Soya) and is still active, decades after its commision in 1982. The Shirase is also the first over-10,000-ton class ship of the JMSDF. This water-line model is a very finely molded injection plastic kit. Two types of helicopters (OH-6D & S-61) are included.
