The Shirase is the second icebreaking Antarctic observation ship deployed by the JMSDF (the first was the Soya) and is still active, decades after its commision in 1982. The Shirase is also the first over-10,000-ton-class ship of the JMSDF.
This is a limited-edition 1/700 injection-molded "High Grade" kit, with photo-etched parts, of the JMSDF Icebreaker Shirase. This waterline model comes with two types of helicopters, OH-6D and S-61. This model represents the Shirase as she appeared on her "final mission."
