This is a educational construction kit assembled from various materials (plastic, metal, etc.).
This karakuri doll was designed during the Edo period (1603-1867) -- the mechanics that make it function are wonderfully precise and complex! Karakuri refers to the mechanisms that make a machine function. This doll approaches with a full teacup on a tray; it stops walking when the teacup is taken, waits, and then turns and walks away with the empty teacup on its tray. The doll is fully completed and ready for use right out of the box.
