This is an all-new tooling of the all-new Type 10 tank, a fourth-generation MBT that the Japan Ground Self Defense Force adopted as its new main battle tank in 2010. With its 120mm smoothbore cannon, it packs the same wallop as the previous Type 90 MBT, but in a smaller, lighter, and higher-tech package.
The kit features excellent detail, with four-piece injection-molded tracks (with optional individual street-use pads!), intricate running gear, and markings for multiple versions. Thanks to slide-mold technology, the main gun and even the turret-mounted .50 cal gun have open muzzles. The model builds into the #3 test vehicle, but does not include the dozer blade. A great kit of an interesting armored vehicle!
Check out our videos of HLJ's Brian Keaney building and painting the Type 10!
Photos of the completed and painted model by Brian are shown below. The display base and antennas (0.5mm brass rods) are not included in the kit, and the lifting eyes on the turret top are not drilled out as seen in the finished model here. Both are easy mods, though, and really enhance the appearance of this already fantastically detailed model!
