The Sherman soldiered on in many different versions from WWII and beyond. This M4A3 differed from other variations with the addition of a 105mm howitzer in place of the standard 75mm gun. Aside from the thicker, shorter barrel of the 105mm howitzer, the mantlet was also different than that of 75mm-gunned Shermans, and is another easy-to-spot point of identification. Some M4A3s with VVSS suspensions were fitted with the 105mm howitzer, as were later vehicles with HVSS suspensions.

Dragon continues its winning ways with another great Sherman release in 1/72 scale. Excellent detail and fine moldings are hallmarks of this kit, which also features a great set of photo-etched parts and nicely done T48 rubber chevron-style tracks molded in flexible Dragon Styrene. The 105mm gun barrel, rotor, and mantlet, as well as the commander's and loader's hatches, are all new toolings. The easy-to-assemble suspension represents the VVSS type with six-spoke pressed steel wheels and idlers, with a choice of either "plain" or "fancy" drive sprockets.
