Commissioned in 1960, the 4,500-ton displacement destroyer Charles F. Adams, the namesake of its class, participated in many operations, including the recovery of NASA's Mercury 8 and the blockade of Cuba that soon followed during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Adams received upgrades throughout its service to keep up with changing threats, and was finally decommissioned in 1992.

Dragon's Premium Edition of its Charles F. Adams kit features photo-etched parts for railings, radar units, and antennas, parts for different superstructure and funnel variations, options for weapons variations, and optional bow sonar variations. Also includes decals by Cartograf for 23 different ships of the US Navy, the Greek Navy, the German Navy, and the Royal Australian Navy.
