The T-34 medium tank is usually included in any discussion of the "best" tanks of WWII, and it certainly was an important tank that helped the Allies win the war. With the addition of the larger turret housing an 85mm gun, the Russians had created a tank with an excellent combination of firepower and mobility that could more than hold its own against the powerful German armor. German Panzerfaust anti-tank rocket launchers were also a lethal threat to Allied tank crews, especially in urban areas. The Russians countered this threat by attaching bedspring-like devices to the turret and hull as stand-off armor to detonate an incoming warhead before it reached the armor plate, robbing the weapon of its penetrating power.
