Description

This is an injection-plastic field gun model kit.

The railway is the most useful method to move and deploy gigantic, large-calibre artillery pieces. Among the many railway guns developed in history, the German 28cm K5(E) is regarded as the best railway gun ever produced. It was a new design from post-WWI and popularly known as "Anzio Annie", so called by the US troops who were shelled bitterly at the Anzio beachhead. Leopold was one of the twin "Anzio Annie" guns; the other was Robert, which was captured by US troops and which is now exhibited at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, USA. As Dragon's kit of the same gun, this is also the largest injection plastic model of a single vehicle ever in 1/35 scale; the length, including railway wagons, is nearly 1m. The barrel itself is 380mm long. The biggest difference between this kit the preceding kit from Dragon is the detail. This kit consists of 1140 parts versus 750 parts for Dragon's Leopold! This is the result of Trumpeter's strong will for pursuing detail. Most of the effort seems to have been poured into the railway wagons. They have thoroughly-detailed suspensions and axles, almost like teaching material for railway technology. Of course, the gun with its elevating mechanism has fine details, and is workable. A photo-etched set for the exhaust pipe guard and steps is included, as is the railway embankment. Trumpeter added an interesting gimmick -- a crossed railway embankment. It was not adopted for the actual firing, but it can give us the idea of how one can provide a traverse angle to the railway gun. The included decals are more carefully stencilled than Dragon's.

We apologise for the super-high cost of shipping this item. This is simply the result of the size of the box -- it's enormous, and with all the plastic parts inside it's very heavy (almost 4 kilograms!). We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
