The sixth-generation Datsun truck (Type 520), which first appeared in 1965, was the first independently designed model, parting from the passenger car Bluebird, which had shared its basic design until that time. The original front was similar to the 410 Bluebird, but in 1968 it adopted a modern design reminiscent of the 510 Bluebird, and the model name was changed to 521. It was the number-one vehicle exported to the United States, and greatly contributed to the expansion of the Japanese car market as a whole.
