Description
This is a spacecraft model.
Launched on January 2nd, 1959, the Soviet Luna 1 was the first man-made object to ever exceed Earth's escape velocity and the first spacecraft to reach the vicinity of the Moon. Although it ended up missing the Moon by about 6,000 kilometers (a very near miss in space travel terms!), it did score another first by then becoming the first spacecraft to achieve a heliocentric orbit, circling the sun somewhere between Earth and Mars.
Mach 2's kit of Luna 1 is molded in white styrene, and in 1/72 scale builds into a very impressive model. This is a limited run injection kit, so be prepared to do a bit of parts cleanup before assembly. Kit includes the beefy Semiorka launch vehicle with Luna 1 specific payload section on top...does NOT include the Luna 1 spacecraft itself!
