On August 29, 1949, the Soviet Union conducted their first successful test of a nuclear bomb. That bomb was the Dew-RDS-1, completed with information obtained from Soviet spies within the U.S. Manhattan Project. This put an end to America's nuclear monopoly and birthed the Cold War era. The Dew-RDS-1 was almost the same as the American "Fat Man" bomb, but it also included elements unique to the Soviet Union. A total of 29 of this bomb were manufactured.
