All-Japan Plamodel Hobby Show 2009: Tamiya Highlights

Aircraft Models

1/32 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc

An all-new, super-detailed Spitfire Mark IXc is on the way!
It's the first British aircraft in Tamiya's 1/32-scale series, and the second reciprocal engine aircraft in the series, after the Zero.

This kit is so outstanding, it has a starring role in one of our upcoming show-report videos! Here, kit designer Tokunaga-san shows HLJ President Scott T. Hards how the engine cowling parts attach with magnets.

The water-cooled engine and cockpit of this 9,800-yen, November-release kit are exquisitely accurate.

The engine cowling parts attach with magnets, making these astonishingly thin (0.4mm) parts easy to remove even after completion!

Here are a few Spitfire variations. We're likely to see them in the future!

Car and Bike Models

1/20 Ferrari F60

At last, another 1/20-scale F1 model from Tamiya!
Tamiya roars back into the F1 spotlight with this great release of the current 2009 season Ferrari F60 Formula One car!

On display was a completed resin, but this will be an injection-molded plastic kit.

It's slated for December release, for 5,000 yen!

Those parts are pretty camouflaged in this photo--sorry about that! Included will be photo-etched parts, seatbelts made from cloth-like stickers, decals, and more.

1/12 Honda RC166

This classic '60s speed machine will join Tamiya's 1/12 Motorcycle Series!
It grabbed the world championship for Honda in both 1966 and 1967.

Runners for the frame, muffler, etc., of this December-release, 5,200-yen kit were on display. And how 'bout this engine!

Detail parts will be available separately--but check out our special offer of this kit and its detail part sets--including a spoked wheel set, front fork set, metal chain set, and rivet set!

The clear cowl is just for this prototype; it won't be included in the kit.

Here's a closeup of some of the goodies in the detal parts set: spoked wheels, chain, and front fork.
On the far right is the kit's wheel, which is certainly sharp as-is--but the detail parts will heighten the realism even further!

Military Models

1/35 Soviet JSU-152

Following up on their great JS-2 Stalin kit, Tamiya presents another Soviet monster in 1/35 scale!

The upper body of this November-release beast is all newly tooled.

It may be hard to see in the photo, but the surface is rendered very realistically. At right, the muzzle brake is a single part.

RC

1/10 Miku Hatsune Studio Glad BMW Z4

Both fast and flashy, here comes an official racing Ita-sha from Tamiya!
Slated for October release for 16,800 yen, it's adorned with graphics of Miku Hatsune of "Vocaloid" fame.
