After Tamiya took the armor modeling world by storm and made 1/35 the standard, they attempted to introduce a new standard for aircraft models with a series of 1/100 and 1/50 scale aircraft. While this made sense for a metric nation, 1/72 and 1/48 were already established as the dominant scales for airplanes, and Tamiya finally converted to those scales.
Tamiya has now re-released some kits from that series. This kit features recessed panel lines and basic detail, not that bad at all when one considers the scale and the age of this kit. Decals are included for two aircraft, one from VA-174 on the Kittyhawk and one from VA-86 off the Saratoga. A ball bearing is included for nose weight.
