The British Crusader cruiser tank outlived its usefulness as a battle tank, and was withdrawn from front-line service after May 1943. There was, however, a need for an armored anti-aircraft platform that could keep up with the armored units, and the Crusader was chosen as the basis for such a vehicle. The Mk. III was fitted with two 20mm Oerlikon guns capable of firing 480 round per minute, and was manned by a crew of four. In addition to its anti-aircraft role, the twin cannons were also used to devastating effect against ground targets. Tamiya's Mk. III AA tank is constructed along the same principles as the real thing: this kit is based on their excellent Crusader Mk. I/II kit, with the addition of the appropriate new turret and hull parts. Like the rest of Tamiya's popular 1/48 series, this kit features a die-cast metal hull and excellent injection-molded link-and-length tracks, with the characteristic sag molded right in! Includes four figures and decals for two versions.
