One of the first American vessels to be launched as an aircraft carrier, the 270.7 meter (880 feet) 33,000 ton displacement USS Saratoga was commissioned in 1927. Among other assignments, she was part of the assault on Guadalcanal in 1942, receiving 7 battlestars for her service in WWII. She ended her days as part of a fleet of ships used in testing the effects of the atomic bomb, carried out at Bikini Atoll in 1946. Pit-Road's Saratoga is a cooperative effort with Trumpeter, depicting the classic carrier as she appeared in 1936. Can be built either full-hull or waterline, including a nice stand and nameplate for the full-hull version and a nice vacu-formed sea base for the waterline version. The pre-war air wing includes plenty of yellow-winged biplanes: 9 each of F3F, BFC, SBU, and TG-2 aircraft, all molded in clear styrene. Decals are included for the Saratoga only.
