This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
Often misidentified as a cruiser, the Akizuki ("Autumn Moon") class was the largest and arguably most successful class of destroyers in the IJN fleet, trading torpedo firepower for much-needed AA firepower in a hull 50 feet longer and 700 tons heavier than its closest rivals. The Akizuki was sunk by the US submarine Halibut at the Battle of Cape Engano on October 25, 1944. Pit-Road's "Special Version" of its excellent 1/700 Akizuki kit is sharply molded in light gray styrene and comes with a nice fret of photo-etched parts for the AA gun emplacements, ladders, lifeboat davits, flagstaffs, radar, and more.
