First entering service in the 1980s, Japan's 2,730-ton displacement Yushio class of modern Japanese attack submarines are propelled by diesel/electric power and can launch a variety of missiles and torpedoes from six torpedo tubes. Ten Yushio-class submarines are in service with the JMSDF.
