Oden is another staple food in Japan, eaten mostly in the winter. It consists of various types of fish paste, boiled eggs, seaweed, and tofu stewed in a broth. It's traditionally sold from a traveling stall, as this kit depicts, but nowadays even the local convenience store will carry a piping-hot selection for you to choose from. This kit is molded mostly in light brown, and includes colored powder (brown and green), a weeping willow, and printed materials for creating the signs and other details.
This kit is part of Kawai Shokai's Fuubutsushi series ("Fuubutsushi" refers to things that remind you of certain seasons) of Japanese buildings, stores, and locations that allow you to recreate Japanese landscapes--it's just like being here! (If you're about 2 inches tall, anyway.) From Edo period sights to relatively modern ones, the wide variety of entries allows you to design the layout of your choice (after taking varying scales into account).
