Battle Sites of Guadalcanal

Like Guam, Saipan, and many other South Pacific paradises, the island of Guadalcanal, a province of the Solomon Islands and now a picture of natural beauty and serenity, was once embroiled in the hellish turmoil of WWII. Occupied by the Japanese in 1942, the US forces chose Guadalcanal for their first major large-scale invasion of a Japanese-held island, a campaign that became a major turning-point in the war. This guidebook points out extant artifacts on the island and environs, battle sites, and routes the opposing forces took during the battles there, as well as examines the history of the conflict.
