The Mikasa has the distinction of not only leading the devastating attack against the Russian fleet on May 25, 1905, but also of being the only surviving Japanese battleship in the world. Of course, that means it is uniquely available for research, and also to be replicated as an ultra-accurate scale model. The folks at a new, small firm have created a brand called "Seals Models" and this is their first offering. The fact that most of them have worked in the past for Pit-Road clearly shows in this ultra-crisp, beautiful kit. They split the hull left and right to allow them to recreate all the detail on the port and starboard sides of the ship. The superstructure, masts and other details as just as good, too. Highly recommended. Box art by famed model box artist Yoshiuyki Takani (who specifically asked to be allowed to paint the box when he learned about the kit!).
