1/48 US M43E8 Sherman Korean War

The venerable Sherman tank was the backbone of the US forces in WWII, and was also supplied in great numbers to the rest of the Allies. Often outgunned and out-armored, it prevailed on the battlefield thanks to strategy and sheer numbers. Many variations appeared throughout the course of the war and beyond, with Shermans serving around the world decades after the war finished. This kit depicts a Korean War-vintage M4A3E8 76mm-gunned HVSS version of this great iconic tank.

Hobby Boss' new M4A3E8 is a bit of a mixed bag, combining decent, sharp molding with some unfortunate accuracy problems with details and dimensions. Hull angles and proportions are a bit off, and the same goes for the turret and suspension components. The great thing about this kit is the superb detail. Tracks are provided as nicely detailed black vinyl belts. Although T66 tracks are depicted in the box-top art, the tracks that actually come in the box are the T80E1 steel chevron type, which are more appropriate for Korean War Shermans anyway. Not a perfect Sherman kit, but the detail is quite well done, and in the end it certainly looks like a Sherman!
