The Los Angeles class of US Navy nuclear attack submarines are equipped for strike missions, anti-sub warfare, intelligence gathering, and search and rescue missions. There are 51 Los Angeles-class subs in the US inventory, 16 in the Pacific Fleet and 32 in the Atlantic Fleet. 110 meters long and displacing 6,927 tons submerged, the type was first commissioned in 1976.
