Based on the design of the Hiryu, Amagi (like Unryu) was a quick-build attempt to bolster Japan's carrier forces after the Midway disaster. She never saw combat, being bombed during outfitting, and rolling over during an attack in late July, 1945. The hulk was scrapped post war.
Aoshima's kit is based, of course, on the older Unryu kit, with minor modifications.
