1/72 P-38J Lightning European Theater

The P-38 is one of those planes pretty much anyone can pick out of a lineup, and now we have a new-tool kit of it in 1/72 scale! Academy showed us they could produce a great Lightning model with their 1/48 kits, and now they have continued with a just-as-nice 1/72 offering. This kit includes a detailed cockpit, optional open canopy parts (to show off that detail!), detailed landing gear and wheelwells, and optional underwing armament including bombs, drop tanks and "bazooka tube" rocket launchers. Decals are for two camoflaged European Theater aircraft: "California Cutie" of the 55th FS, and the natural-metal "Arkansas Traveler" of the 392nd FS. California Cutie's nose art looks exactly like the "B-24 Innocent Abroad" figure produced by Legend, and posing the two together on a base would certainly add a lot of visual appeal!
