Education: B.A., International Relations & Telecommunication, Michigan State University, 1986
Personal: Married. Two children and a third on the way. Lived in Japan for eighteen years, and continuously since 1991. Currently residing in the Nasu Highlands of northern Tochigi. Fluent in spoken and written Japanese.

Prior & Part-Time Professional Work:
  • Worked for Japan's Kyowa Bank (later Asahi Bank, now Resona Bank). Credit officer/risk management systems development, 1986-1992
  • Worked for Canada's Thomson Corporation (Tokyo-based financial reporter, 1992-1993)
  • Translation and photography for the Aero Detail series of books on WWII aircraft (published by Dai-Nippon Kaiga).
  • Worked freelance for numerous magazines, newspapers and game companies (1993-present)
  • Writes an English-study column for Shukan ST (published by the Japan Times).
  • Occasionally seen on Japanese TV
Present Employment
  • Owner/President of HobbyLink Japan, Ltd.
  • Company founded in September 1995 (incorporated January 1997)
  • Now boss to 17 people, 11 Japanese and 6 non-Japanese.
  • Annual sales of approx. $10 million USD (FY 2005).
Hobbies & Interests:
  • Building plastic models (no surprise)
  • Aircraft, esp. WWII & modern carrier-based, and the photography thereof
  • Computers (Macs only. "I don't do Windows")
  • Video games, especially role-playing and simulations
  • Scuba diving since summer 2000
  • F1, sumo, hockey, golf and baseball
