Spot production items are generally older, lower-demand items, that have been recently reissued by the manufacturer, or new items that we expect will be manufactured relatively infrequently. Such items are generally only produced once or twice per year, and in some cases, this manufacturing span may be even longer. Older, lower demand items for which we have been able to get no stock for an extended period, but which are still listed in the manufacturer's catalog, are classified as dormant in our catalog.
If you place an order for an item like this and our online order status system tells you it is backordered, please remain patient. Since the item has been produced relatively recently, there is still a good chance we can locate more stock for you from one of our distributors. If, however, your backorder on a spot production item remains in place for more than two months or so, you may wish to consider looking elsewhere for the item. If we become convinced that more stock is going to be hard to find, we will change the item's status in our catalog to dormant or out-of-production depending on the situation.
