How to Pay for your Order

Pay by Credit Card or PayPal (preferred)

HobbyLink Japan's order page is a located on a state-of-the-art secure server. With this in mind, HLJ recommends to its customers that they simply submit their credit card information to us via our order page. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, or if you cannot use the secure page because of the nature of your Internet connection, you can submit your information in either of the following ways as well:

(1) Fax your information to us

Write down your name, your customer ID, your order number, the card number, card type, and expiration date of the card to be used. Fax this to + 81-283-27-2352 (remember to add your international access code to the front of that number. For customers in the U.S. or Canada, that's 011. For customers in other countries, check with your operator for international dialing instructions if you're not sure).

(2) Mail your information to us

Write down your name, your customer ID, your order number, the card number, card type, and expiration date of the card to be used. Mail this to:

Allow at least one week for a first class letter to reach us from most countries.

In any event, you will only need to do this once as we will keep your card information on file for use with future purchases.

If you wish to pay via PayPal instead, either choose "PayPal/Money Order Payment" when placing your order, or change your payment method through our Account Maintenance System. When all the items in your order are ready to be shipped, you will be sent instructions by email for making your payment by PayPal.

Pay by Money Order or Bank/Cashier's Check

HobbyLink Japan highly recommends payments by credit card or PayPal if at all possible for reasons of speed, convenience and safety. However, if you cannot get your own credit card, or borrow the use of that of a friend or family member, and don't want to use PayPal, then we can receive your payment by Certified/Cashier's check or money order (including bank or postal money orders). Please carefully read the instructions below:

To Pay by Certified/Cashier's Check or Money Order

(1) Place your order as normal, but indicate money order/bank check payment on the order form. Do not send any money at this time. Once your entire order is ready to go, or you request a partial shipment, our order department will e-mail you with the amount to be paid, including your shipping charges.

(2) Get a certified/bank cashier's check or bank/postal money order made payable to "Scott T. Hards" for the total amount of your order in US Dollars. Important: DO NOT send a personal check, or make the check payable to HobbyLink Japan. Such checks will be returned to you, delaying shipment of your order! The amount to pay will be confirmed to you in an e-mail invoice from us -- do not make your own foreign exchange calculation from yen to dollars. We regret we cannot accept personal checks; money orders, bank drafts and cashier's checks only, please!

Q: If HLJ is in Japan, why is the payment in US dollars, and why is it made out to Scott, not the company?

A: We'd love to accept checks drawn overseas for deposit to our bank here in Japan. However, Japanese banks charge handling fees of about 1,500 yen per foreign check to clear them, and it can take up to one month to happen. These factors make it very impractical to accept checks for small amounts. So instead, we have you send the funds in US dollars to an account in the US, where such fees are not charged. But since HLJ is not registered as a business in the US (only in Japan), we don't have a business account there, and so the checks are collected in a personal account before the funds are eventually transferred to Japan.

When you send the payment, please print a copy of the payment request you will have received from us by e-mail, and include it when you mail us your money order. Please do not put any correspondence relevant to your order in this mail. Direct all messages about orders to Japan through normal e-mail channels. Once HLJ's US payments staff have confirmed your payment, your purchase will be shipped from our warehouse in Japan.

HLJ's US payments staff only process money orders payments on a part-time basis. Please note that it may take up to one week upon arrival of your payment for your account to be credited and the shipping process to begin. If you are concerned about getting your order as quickly as possible, as above, we strongly recommend that you use a credit card or PayPal to pay for your order.

Payment is required within 14 days of our e-mail invoice to you. Orders that go unpaid after one month will be canceled and returned to stock. Please pay as soon as you get your e-mail invoice, or contact us about why you are unable to pay.

Also, please note we CANNOT accept any changes to non-credit card orders after we have invoiced you because of the effect on shipping costs. If you place many orders with us, or are ordering a large number of items, we strongly recommend you use a credit card to pay for your orders.
