| Quick-Start Guide for Konami's Combat Digi-Q R/C Tanks |
Updated March 2, 2003
This quick and easy page should be enough to get you going using Konami's Combat Digi-Qs. If this information is not enough to answer your question or problem, please check Konami's English manual.
CHARGING THE TANK
- Turn the controller off.
- Switch the controller to Charge Mode.
- Turn the tank off. Connect it to the charging mount on the underside of the controller.
- Turn the controller on. The red light should come on, indicating charging has begun. The controller's display should show "CH."
- When the green OK lamp comes on, charging is completed. Charging takes about 10 mins. and tanks will run for about 15 mins. on a full charge.
GETTING IT GOING AFTER CHARGING
- Turn the contoller off. Remove the tank from the charging mount.
- Turn the tank on. It should flash red once.
- Set the controller's mode to Practice, Combat or Expert.
- Turn the controller on. The tank should flash red again. You should now be able to operate the tank. If it does not respond, try changing the controller's ID setting to find the ID that matches the tank's current setting. Or you can change the tank's ID setting (see below).
CONTROLLING THE TANK
- You can make the tank turn in place if you push the steering control to either side before you engage the forward/reverse control.
- These tanks offer full proportional digital control. Their speed and rate of turn can be precisely controlled through careful controller inputs.
- If your tank will not go straight forward even when you're not steering it, adjust the Steering Trim knob on the controller until it will travel in a straight path.
CHANGING THE TANK'S ID
- Make sure you are not in bright sunlight when you change the ID. Set the controller to Charge Mode.
- Set the controller's ID switch to the ID you want to set the tank to.
- Place the controller horizontally over the top of the tank on a flat surface, straddling it. The lens on the top of the tank should be facing the lens on the underside (back side) of the controller.
- Press and hold the ID Rewrite Button until the red lamp to the left of the controller's display turns green.
- When the tank under the controller flashes red once, the ID has been successfully changed.
COMBAT BASICS
- Make sure, of course, that all combat participants have their tanks set to different IDs. Up to four people can play at once.
- The two buttons on the underside (back side) of the controller fire the tank's gun. The tank will kick back slightly when it fires.
- You can fire at other tanks, and they will respond when hit in any of the three modes, Practice, Combat, or Expert.
- The tank "fires" from a diode near the barrel. Your target must be in the general direction that the barrel is pointing to score a hit. Also, the lens on the top of the tank must be uncovered for combat play.
The effective range of the combat system is about one meter.
- When hit, tanks will "shudder" in place and flash.
- Tanks do not need to be set to the same mode to fight.
ADVANCED COMBAT
- In Practice Mode, tanks have unlimited ammo and take infinite damage. There is no end to the combat.
- In Combat Mode, all tanks have the same capabilities. Ammo is unlimited, and reloads take three seconds. After taking five hits, a tank is "killed" and cannot be controlled for a while. Even before being "killed," a tank's speed will drop after a few hits. When only one hit remains, the tank's damage light will flash.
- In Expert Mode, the tank's firepower, ability to take damage, reload time and ammo supply vary depending on the model of tank used.
- You can handicap a less-experienced player by setting their controller to Combat Mode, while more experienced players use Expert mode.
- For team (2-on-2 or 2-on-1) combat, set the controller's power switch to the Team Play position. Teams are determined by odd and even numbered IDs. In Team Play mode, your shots will not affect friendly tanks.
